Is the Circuit City liquidation sale all it’s cracked up to be?
I’ll be making a trip to a local Circuit City later today to investigate their going-out-of-business liquidation “sale”. I use the term sale with a bit of sarcasm – it’s been pretty obvious so far that the firm in charge of the liquidation hasn’t really marked much down, and in some cases has marked things [...]
Verizon Wireless Network Extender: A $250 rip-off
So, you’re a new Verizon Wireless customer – a rookie member of their much-touted “most-reliable” wireless network. You’ve seen the commercials where the lead singer of Weezer (not really) is in the middle of the forest/driving through a tunnel/bull-riding or what have you – all while talking on a phone with perfect reception. You’re ready [...]
Mr. Cook, tear down this wall (or: the App Store sucks)
The iPhone App Store is crap, plain and simple. Crap because of what they sell inside it and crap because of what they aren’t selling.
Apple has made it clear that they are more than willing to let countless fart applications into the App Store but aren’t so keen on useful applications like, oh, I don’t know – [...]
Digital TV transition may be delayed until June 12, sort of
The Senate is expected to unanimously pass a bill that would delay the transition from analog TV to digital TV all the way until June 12. There is, however, a catch – television stations can go right ahead and shut down their analog signal on February 17 if they so choose. The delay would be [...]
Bringing foosball into the 21st century
Foosball is one of my all-time favorite lounge games (next to darts), so the arrival of this new table from 2eleven is more than welcome. It’s everything you love about the classic game of foosball plus the addition of automatic kickoffs, LED scoreboards and LCD screens.
Unfortunately, the LCD screens appear to be for advertising, which [...]
Is true MMS coming to the iPhone?
According to the folks over at MacBlogz, AT&T is toying around with some wireless technology that could eventually result in a true MMS experience making its way onto the iPhone.
The omission of MMS (and cut/paste) is one of the most puzzling decisions made by Apple with the iPhone. If this does come to fruition, there [...]
HTC rolls out the sleek Touch Cruise
HTC’ pulled back the curtain today to reveal the Touch Cruise, a Windows Mobile 6.1 smartphone with a “Footprints” feature. With Footprints, images taken with the Touch Cruise’s camera are geo-tagged, letting you see exactly where you were when you snapped the photo.
For you spec geeks, the official device specifications come after the jump.
Lenovo ad – this doesn’t work in real life, trust me
I’m not quite sure if I should be taking this seriously, but Lenovo has a new video out for the W700ds, its gigantic dual-screen laptop. Check it out below, but be prepared to suspend reality for just a few moments.
This could be an attempt to go viral, but if it isn’t – what the hell?

Microsoft unloads 5,000 jobs
Job cuts are underway in Redmond, WA, where Microsoft has delivered permanent blue screens of death to 1,400 employees today. Another 3,600 will be out of work over the next 18 months. The job cuts come after Microsoft reported an 11% drop in net income for the fiscal second quarter.
One bright spot for Microsoft – [...]

Even with the economy in the crapper, Apple is cashing in. What’s the catalyst? Plain and simple – the iPhone. Apple sold 88% more [...]
