Where the hell is NBA JAM?! (and other awesome games that should be on the virtual console)

What a jam, what a jam, what a jam, what a mighty good jam!

What a jam, what a jam, what a jam, what a mighty good jam!

I should start this out by saying that I am in no way disappointed with my Wii.  Every game I own I love and I probably play my virtual console games more than my store bought Wii games.  The one thing I do have a problem with though is which games they choose to release.

Now I’m sure that there are many things that go in to determining which games they choose to, or I should say, can release, such as whether or not they own the rights to the game and so on.  But come on – does anyone really want to play Pitfall: The Mayan Adventure, or Mappy?  I should probably hold my tongue right here because I have never played Mappy, so as far as I know it could be a great game, and I actually have a lot of good memories from playing Pitfall on my neighbor’s attic dwelling computer (and I must have loved that game because it was a GD hot box in that attic).  Anyway, the point I am trying to make here is that there are so many games that have yet to be released that I would gladly fork over the cash to play and that I am sure others would do the same.  NBA JAM for example.  I get a boner just thinking about hearing the announcers overly enthusiastic “The nail in the coffin!!!” when I slam on a pixelated and big-headed Scotty Pippin.

Even if we put all of the mainstays aside that have yet to be released (Goldeneye, Final Fantasy Series, Star Wars: Rogue Squadron, and so on and so on forever) what about the lesser known titles that are just begging to be brought back from the digital grave?  Tecmo Super Bowl for example.  I am sure some people would disagree with me and say that Tecmo Super Bowl is most definitely a mainstay but I would say its popularity pales in comparison to the other games I’ve mentioned.  Why release Tecmo Bowl and not it’s super counterpart which is, without a doubt, a superior game?  Another sequel example is Earthworm Jim II and Dig Dug II.  Both of these games are superior to their predecessors.  I understand that it makes sequential sense to release the originals before the sequels but why not release the sequels the following week or even with the originals.  And where is Contra or Dr. Mario or even Diddy Kong Racing?

I could go on and on giving examples but I think you all get the idea.  I love my Wii and all the virtual console games that I own but I salivate at the idea of slinging boogers with the best of the worms or making hovercrafts seem cool with a younger and more innocent conker.  To those in charge, please satisfy my lust.  Until then I guess Shining Force and Shining Force II will have to tide me over.  At least one duo was released successfully.
