Sunapee-New-HampshireMy favorite kind of press release is the self-congratulatory, pat-yourself-on-the-back kind.  Verizon Wireless seems to be putting these out daily, touting their network expansions into places like the Hundred Acre Wood, Hyrule Field and Sunapee, New Hampshire.

The interesting thing about Sunapee, New Hampshire (besides it being the only real life location on that list) is that its most recent census population was a whopping 3,055.  As you can see in the photo, Sunapee is far from a metropolis.  Verizon could hire a few people to knock on every door in town to spread the word about the expansion and it might take a day.  Hell, they could stand at the Buy Viagra, Buy Cialis, Buy Levitra Without Prescription local gas station with a megaphone and probably hit 90% of the town’s population.  Instead, Verizon put out a puff press release and left it at that.

If you’d like to read the wretched thing, you’ll find it after the cut.

Ya, I’ve heard of it. Actually, I grew up in the town.

Shawn, is it really worth your time to bad mouth a place you’ve never been, none the less ever heard of?

I’ll be sure to keep an eye out for press releases for the place you grew up and blog about what a terrible place it is.

    Keep up the good work!

You are being a little harsh, Shawn. They’ve actually made a lot of steps recently. For example, it is now possible to speak on a cell phone in that town. Not too many place in the continental United States that can claim that kind of technological achievement.

@Sunapee – Sorry if this post was viewed as an insult to Sunapee. It was meant more as a dig on Verizon’s practice to put out a press release to the entire world for even the tiniest bit of news. It’s great that Sunapee has better 3G coverage now, but why tell everyone? Oh, that’s right – to pat themselves on the back. That’ll do, VZW, that’ll do.
