Boost Mobile users experiencing text message delays

By Shawn Farner | Friday, May 1, 2009

Boost MobileIf you’re a Boost Mobile customer trying to receive a text message, don’t worry – you’ll get it.  Eventually.

It seems that Boost is having a bit of trouble coping with the popularity of their new $50/month unlimited calling and messaging plan.  So much trouble, in fact, that users are experiencing delays when receiving text messages.  Messages may take a few minutes longer to arrive than normal, though some users report having text messages take hours to reach their phone.  Since SMS is primarily used to communicate quickly back and forth, a delay like that is totally unacceptable.

Boost users are clearly taking advantage of their unlimited messaging, and who can blame them?  It’s estimated that over 500,000 subscribers joined up last quarter.  Those users surely signed up expecting to receive their texts in a timely manner though, and it’s on Boost to fix the situation or risk losing those new customers to another prepaid wireless provider.
