Will the next version of Apple’s red-hot iPhone incorporate video? BusinessWeek’s Peter Burrows seems to think it will – in a big way.
Video is the next logical progression – the iPhone is a smartphone, after all, and a lot of other phones have been doing video for a long time. But sitting back and watching everyone do their thing before entering the fray with something game-changing; that is the Apple way. Burrows points out that Apple has been completely silent about the suspected video features of its rumored iPhone, even though the evidence is there:
The atmospherics suggest that I’m right. I’m referring to the loud silence from Apple—a company that is famous for pre-launch misdirection in order to maintain some element of surprise. For example, Apple made no mention of any video recording capability when it unveiled its iPhone 3.0 software a few months back. And yet blog posts from Gizmodo and others have pretty much confirmed that it’s in there.
I, for one, hope the rumors are true. While I’m not happy with some of the features Apple has been slow to adopt (MMS, anyone?), video is something I will give them a pass on. If they can do it right and make it mind-blowing, the next generation of iPhones should sell like hotcakes. Like they won’t already.
