Windows 7Using timeline comparisons from the development and release of both Windows XP and Windows Vista, ComputerWorld has written that Windows 7 could see the light of day as early as this August.

In 2001, Microsoft issued its first Windows XP release candidate (RC1) 115 days before it shipped the operating system on Oct. 25. Five years later, Microsoft publicly unveiled Windows Vista 138 days after it delivered that OSs’ first release candidate.

Adding a similar amount of time onto the date of the Windows 7 RC release (May 5) places the release of Windows 7 somewhere between late August and early September.  While Microsoft has remained mum on an official release date, the guesstimated period of time doesn’t seem to be that much of a stretch.  After all, it was only yesterday that Acer’s Bobby Watkins claimed an October 23rd release for the operating system.

Microsoft’s response to all of this?  “We are currently in the development stages for Windows 7 and expect it will take approximately three 3 years from Windows Vista Consumer to develop.  The specific release date will be determined once the company meets its quality bar for release.”  Fun killers.
