According to The Wall Street Journal, Microsoft is readying a motion-sensing camera for the Xbox 360 that could be unveiled as early as next month. The WSJ is basing this information on “people familiar with the matter”, which is probably my all-time favorite way to turn “sources” into five words.
From a business angle, Microsoft likely feels that they need to introduce innovative new ways to control games – the Wii has clearly proven that there’s room for change. As a gamer, though, I’m a little worried that there are too many gimmicky peripherals entering the market. I’m hoping that Sony, Microsoft and Nintendo aren’t throwing 2009 versions of the Sega 32X at us with each new add-on.
Microsoft’s camera will probably be released sometime next year, and it’s a bit early to be talking price – we haven’t even seen the thing yet. We’ll definitely keep you updated as we learn more about Microsoft’s new toy.
