The next level of a Hybrid? Channel Web reported that Sony may finally Combine PSP with Cell Phone.We all know that Cell phones now comes with features like MP3 players, digital cameras, sound pen, camcorders, and even mobile computers. So when Reuters on Monday reported that the Nikkei business daily on Saturday wrote that Sony is considering a hybrid cell phone-gaming device to compete with Apple’s iPod and iPhone, it may mean that Sony is once again thinking of combining Playstation PSP portable gaming console and a cellphone functions.
Sony could set up a project team as early as next month to develop a new portable device combining the function of a PSP portable gaming console and a Sony Ericsson mobile cell phone, Reuters reported.
According to a report of Channel Web, Sony had been comtemplating this possibility for a while, back in Nov 2007,Jim Ryan, then Sony Computer Entertainment’s co-chief operating officer, said that a “Playstation Phone” is a future possibility in a report of The Economic Times.
Sony had been suffering quite a bit due to the economic downturns and in the midst of all that, both the play station PSP and their cellphone joint venture with Sweden Ericsson, Sony Ericsson had been their “super star” success .
“The playstation (sic) is a proven success and so is Sony Ericsson. Convergence with the two arms working together is definitely plausible,” the Economic Times quoted Ryan as saying.
More “Synergy”? Perhaps. It really depend on what we consumer at large will fall in love with, which will be more appealing?
(1) A Sony Ericsson Mobile Phone with PSP game built in? or
(2) Making a call with your PSP Play Station?
