Looks like the EBook Reader and EBooks market will be getting more heated competition.

We all know that Barnes & Noble announcing last month their launch of E-Bookstore with a exclusive distribution deal with Plastic Logic Super Thin E-Book reader. Then yesterday we also reported Barnes and Noble will also be partnering with Netherlands’ EBook reader company iRex for a 8.1Inch Touch Screen E-Reader to further expand their reach. Google on the other hand also had revealed their plan in creating some kind of platform that would enable publishers to do direct-to-consumer sales(Many says it will be another E-Book Store.)

AT&T 2nd EBooks Market Deployment

sony-3g-wireless-ebookNow we have AT&T making their second move to provide wireless access for Sony’s upcoming 3G Wireless E-Book Reader. Their 1st move were made earlier this summer that they will do the same for Plastic Logic. Now we know what they, be it Google, Sony, IRex, Plastic Logic, Barnes and Noble, AT&T and perhaps many more in the future are going after, they are all going after the same market that Amazon Kindle had been taking the lead(so far)—The Emerging E-book Industry.

Now some quick random over view of the Sony New 3G Wireless EBooks reader:

- It will be called Reader Daily Edition and will be

- Schedule to be released in December.

- It will come with a 7inches Touch Screen

- You can read it vertically or horizontally

- Can store up to 1000 books

- External Memory Slot for memory expansion

- Also support Word, PDF and other documents that can be stored or downloaded directly in it.

Price Point for reader and service

Price point will be USD399, higher than all their previous SONY e-reader. But hey! is 3G and WIRELESS!  And Wireless is just what all previous version lack to compete with Amazon Kindle which employ the network of Sprint Nextel Corp. (S) so we can buy books, magazines or newspapers wherever, whenever.

What’s in it for AT&T?

The question people are asking is:” what’s the deal for AT&T here?” Since they had never mentioned how they will monetized with these moves. But surely there is money in it, as a NASDAQ report put it:” The deal with Sony reflects a concerted effort on AT&T’s part to maximize use of its wireless network and develop new revenue streams.” The report on NASDAQ mentioned that most likely AT&T would get their profit based on the sale of each electronic publication.

And that alone can be very lucrative, consider an estimate sales of 1 million Amazon Kindles and tens of millions of e-books sold since Kindle was introduce 2007. And we are still in the tips of an iceberg as the growth potential is really limitless.

Amazon lets publishers sell blog subscriptions for Kindle

gizHQ on KindleAmazon has introduced Kindle Publishing for Blogs, a more simple way for bloggers to be included in the Kindle’s content distribution system.  For bloggers, it is another distribution channel and (smaller) source of revenue.  For blog readers, it means a greater selection of blogs to choose from.  For Amazon?  CHA-CHING.

Amazon is currently taking a 70 percent cut on blog subscription sales.  Subscription prices are set by Amazon and could be priced at either $0.99 or $1.99 a month.  So, for example, if you chose to subscribe to gizHQ on your Kindle (yeah, we’re in there – $1.99/mo.), Amazon would take home $1.39.  How much would we bank?  About $0.60.

Aside from giving the content creator a weak 30 percent, the new system could present an opportunity for blogs to tap into new audiences and become more widely read, and I’m all for that.  All Amazon needs to do now is convince buyers that $359 and $489 are fair prices for ebook readers.
